Preparation.
Preparations for the camp started after a camp scheduled to be held at Basse was cancelled because
of unscheduled renovations to the Basse Hospital. The CMD of EFSTH, who has been following
the activities of the Foundation suggested that the camp be held at EFSTH instead. Since the
planned date was near, weekly meetings were held to asses readiness for the camp. 17th and 18th
December was chosen as the dates for the camp. As per tradition, accommodation and feeding was
the catered for by the host, EFSTH. 20 Rooms were booked at the Laico Atlantic hotel for 40
AMISURG members, a welcoming buffet was organized for the 16th to kickstart the camp.
Breakfast was served at the hotel and dinner and lunch taken at the hospital.
Patient recruitment was started about 3 weeks to the camp, patients were recruited from various
clinics within the hospital. General surgery cases and pediatric surgery cases were recruited at
SOPD and gynae cases were recruited from gynae clinic. A total of 65 cases were recruited from
General surgery, 40 cases from pediatric surgery and 12 cases from obstetrics and gynecology. The
camp members were also set to attend to any emergency theatre cases.
Volunteers were also recruited from amongst the Surgeons, junior doctors, anesthetists and scrub nurses in the host institution. A total of 40 AMISURG volunteers joined the rest of the EFSTH staff. |
